TONY’s Adventure

Hi my name is Tony Delaney.
I am taking part in the Clipper round the world race on board the UK sponsored boat, Our Isles and Ocean’s .
I set sail from Seattle on the 2nd May 2024 to Portsmouth (UK) via Panama, Washington DC and Oban ( Scotland).
For me this is in every way a challenge of a life time but is also an opportunity to help Friends of Mulanje Orphans knowing that every penny goes to a good cause.
Mary and Gillian’s story about the founding of the charity inspired me to pick Friends of Mulanje Orphans as my charity for the race. I recall Gillian (a dear friend) telling me that she and her neighbour Mary sat at her kitchen table in Preston, Lancashire and discussed the plight of the children of Mulanje following a visit there by Mary in 2000. Their initial motto might have been “To do nothing was simply not an option” but I understand it is now “Helping Does Make a Difference”.
From humble beginnings Friends of Mulanje Orphans grew to supporting 5,500 children at its peak. 23 years on in addition to feeding centres there is a secondary school, clinic and even a football / net ball team. I am most impressed that the trustee meetings are still held at the kitchen table and the helpers are volunteers.
I assure you, that all the funds raised go directly to the front line.
Unfortunately following flooding there has been a poor harvest this year and global inflation has had a dramatic impact on the cost of food for these people.
Help me raise funds knowing, for sure, “Helping Does Make a Difference”. All and any donations will be most appreciated.
